Redeye snatches victory from the jaws of defeat

Summer 4

Course 37, Long and Short, and winds from the southwest (Force 4) made it a great day’s sailing for the 14 keelboats competing in Race 4 of the Aberdeen Boat Club’s Summer Series 2026.

A clean start at 1030 for the two IRC divisions and another clean start for the eight PHS boats on Sunday, the 12th of July, had everyone on starboard tack, making for Bluff Head. The faster boats then made a quick ‘diversion’ around Fury Rocks while the cruisers raised their kites and headed for Tung Lung Chau.

For the IRC racing machines, after rounding Steep Island, it was a sprint to the finish off Clearwater Bay and, for PHS, it was a run along the shore past the marina. Redeye snatched victory from Next in IRC 1 while Intrigue claimed a well-deserved 1st in IRC 2.

In a 14-knot following breeze, Rex Au Yeung and crew on Daydream stormed to victory in PHS A while tailender, Shun Shui, claimed handicap honours in PHS B – well done Felix Mak and crew.

The hungry crews then descended on Fat Kee Seafood Restaurant, behind the golf course, inside the picturesque bay. What a way to spend Sunday!
